Clay Project
When I first head that we were doing a clay project, I was worried! I am not the most artistic person and this seemed like it would be difficult. However, with the guidance from our instructors it was pretty simple! For this project, we used air-dry clay. First, we wedged our clay. This was a process of getting air out of the clay so that if it were normal clay, it would not explode in the kiln. After this, I rolled out my slab of clay. Then, I molded the clay into a circle shape and put a hole in the top. This was a two-piece clay ornament so I roughed up the back of the top layer of clay and used water to mold it to the bottom layer. After this, I decorated and painted my clair to create a Christmas ornament. Clay projects can be incorporated in the classroom in many ways. One way this could be incorporated into Geography would be to create different monuments and landforms made out of clay with the students. I am excited to experiment with air-dry clay again!
